STANDARDS MALAYSIA & SAMM ACCREDITATION

The Department of Standards Malaysia is the national accreditation body under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).

Under Standards Malaysia, the Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) provides accreditation for testing and calibration laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

ISO/IEC 17025: 2017

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is an internationally recognised standard that specifies the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 demonstrates that a laboratory is capable of producing technically valid and reliable testing results that are recognised internationally.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION THROUGH ILAC MRA

What is ILAC MRA?

The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) is an international organisation that promotes confidence in laboratory testing, calibration, inspection, and certification results worldwide. ILAC works together with accreditation bodies across different countries to ensure laboratories operate competently and in accordance with internationally recognised standards such as MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

What is ILAC?

The ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC MRA) is a global mutual recognition arrangement between accreditation bodies. Under this arrangement, test reports and certificates issued by laboratories accredited by recognised accreditation bodies — such as Standards Malaysia (SAMM) are accepted and trusted internationally.

This means that  laboratory results issued under ILAC MRA accreditation carry international credibility, reducing the need for repeated testing and supporting international trade and regulatory acceptance.
